Christ is risen from the dead! Khrystos Voskres! This is the main proclamation of the Christian faith. It forms the basis for the Church's worship and spiritual life; " if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain." (1Corinthians 15:14) In the first resurrection sermon the Apostle Peter began his proclamation: "People of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man attended to you by God with mighty works and signs and wonders which God did to him in your midst, as you yourself know‑this, Jesus delivered up according to a definite plan and foreknowledge of God, crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. But God raised him up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it." (Acts 2:22‑24) After denying three times that he knew Christ, Peter became not only more strong in his faith, he became the Rock upon which Christ built His Church. Jesus had the power to lay down his life and the power to take it up again. This action is what energized them; the risen Christ gave them a new life, a new beginning! The word "pascha" in Hebrew means "passing over, or deliverance." The Hebrews, celebrating the Old Testament Passover, commemorated the exodus of the Jews out of Egypt, when they crossed the parted Red Sea being led by their great Prophet Moses. They left the land of slavery to enter into the Promised Land. Christians, celebrating the New Testament Pascha, exult in the deliverance through Christ of all the people from slavery to the devil and in the granting of life and everlasting bliss. The Church sings of this in the canons "From death to life and from the earth to the Heavens has Christ God brought us." Pascha is the essence of our faith, for Christ rose from the dead, as we will rise from the dead. Pascha is the Feast of feasts, the Triumph of triumphs and, therefore, the services of this feast are exceptionally magnificent and triumphant. The Resurrection of Christ was attested to by the blood of the apostles and by the countless of martyrs proclaimed by the Church. The spiritual joy of Pascha is expressed in the victorious hymn: "Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tomb bestowing life," and is felt in the heart of each believer today! May the Risen Lord bless all of you and your family members wherever they may be, with many graces, much good health and the joy of the promise of blessings to come! Fr. Andrei Kachur
